Most webcam guides assume a Windows PC. On a Mac, three things matter more:

The picks

Try this first: your iPhone with Continuity Camera

If you have an iPhone XR or newer on iOS 16 and a Mac on macOS Ventura (13) or later, the iPhone can be your webcam with no extra app. Apple's requirements: both devices signed in to the same Apple Account with two-factor authentication, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on, and the phone near the Mac, locked, stable and in landscape, with its rear cameras facing you. It works over Wi-Fi or a cable. OBS's own guide says phones show up in OBS as a Video Capture Device, like any webcam. You also get Apple's effects, such as Center Stage, Portrait mode, Studio Light and Desk View, depending on your models.

Keep in mind: Apple says unlocking the phone or answering a call on it pauses the video, so it's a poor fit if your iPhone is also your phone during a stream. Apple suggests plugging it in to keep it charged, which also stops the phone dropping off Wi-Fi mid-session. Only one iPhone works with one Mac at a time. OBS forum users have reported glitches, such as a black screen with Desk View, so test it before you go live.

You need a mount. Belkin's iPhone Mount with MagSafe for Mac notebooks is $29.99 at Belkin and $29.95 at Apple, for iPhone 12 and later. Digital Camera World liked its strong magnet and sturdy hinge but called it "a little expensive" and noted it has no built-in charging. Belkin's store showed it out of stock on 15 Oct. Any phone clamp on a small tripod or a desk arm does the same job.

Best cheap webcam for a Mac: Elgato Facecam Neo

1080p at 60 fps, a USB-C cable that plugs straight into a MacBook, and Elgato's Camera Hub app on macOS, where you can lock exposure and white balance. Elgato's support page lists macOS 12 or newer on Intel or Apple silicon. PCWorld (3.5/5) listed "Good control for Windows and Mac" among its pros, and PC Gamer scored it 82/100 (see our webcam guide). At $39.99 on Elgato's store on 15 Oct 2026, down from the $99.99 PCWorld reviewed it at, it's the easy pick.

Keep in mind: there's no microphone, so pair it with a USB mic. PCWorld found the image too dark and oversaturated in dim indoor light, so it needs a light. The cable is fixed, at 140 cm.

Best image and software on a Mac: Obsbot Meet 2

A tiny 4K webcam with a large 1/2" sensor, 1080p at 60 fps, AI framing and gesture control. Its OBSBOT Center app has a current macOS build: the download page showed an update on 23 Sept 2026, and the spec page lists macOS 11 or later. It connects over USB-C and comes with a USB-A adapter, so it suits both new MacBooks and older Macs. PCWorld rated its software "second to none" (more in our webcam guide).

Keep in mind: it's $129 at Obsbot, so it's above our usual budget unless you catch a sale (TechRadar reported $99 at Amazon in September 2026). Obsbot says 4K with its beauty and background effects needs an M1 Mac or later. Tom's Guide found the built-in mic mediocre.

The familiar choice, with a Mac caveat: Logitech C920s Pro HD

The long-running safe pick: 1080p at 30 fps, a 78° view, stereo mics and a flip-down privacy shutter, at $69.99 on Logitech's store. It's a standard USB webcam, so it works in FaceTime, Zoom and OBS on a Mac without a driver.

Keep in mind: we couldn't confirm which Logitech app controls it on a current Mac. Logitech's product page mentions Logi Tune and G HUB. Logitech's support pages now steer people to Logi Options+, and the Logi Tune macOS download we found was last updated in 2021. Without the app, you can't easily lock exposure or white balance. It also uses a USB-A plug, so a USB-C-only MacBook needs an adapter. At this price, the Facecam Neo is the better Mac buy unless you find the C920s on sale.
